New League Bowler FAQ's

Do I have to be a good bowler?
Many of our leagues are recreational in nature and beginning skill levels are welcome.

What if I don't have an average?
New bowlers will establish an average the very first week of league. This average will determine your individual and/or team handicap. Handicap is the "pins" added to your game or series score to even the difference between yourself or your team and the opposing team. An example of a league individual handicap rule would be 90% of the difference between your average and 200. That figure would be added to your team for each game you bowl.

What if I don't have a team, but I am interested in joining a league?
We will work to introduce you to teams with openings for the leagues that you are interested in joining or have availability for. A spot isn't guranteed, but we try our best.

What does USBC Sanction mean?
USBC is the governing body of bowling. Most of our fall/winter leagues are USBC sanctioned, meaning they follow the rules and regulations for the sport of bowling put forth by the USBC, and you will need to individually join as a member of the USBC in order to bowl in a sanctioned league. Adult sanction fees for the 2024-25 season are $25.00 per person. This is a yearly fee in addition to the weekly fees you are responsible for when joining a league.

What if I miss a week of league? Do I still owe the weekly fees?
Yes. League members are expected to pay for every week of league, regardless of whether they were present or not. So, if your league bowls 30 weeks, you will be responsible for paying for 30 weeks of bowling by the end of the league season. It is also traditionally expected that if you ask someone to substitute for you when you are gone, you still pay for them to bowl. However, some teams carry more members on their roster than the legal lineup and rotate who plays each week. It is generally agreed upon on these teams that whomever is bowling that night is responsible for the weekly fee.
